Background: 

NASCAR officials revealed in 2011 that Rockingham Speedway hosted the NASCAR Camping World Truck in 2012. During the first race, Nelson Piquet Jr a pole position, and Kasey Kahne won the race title.

The race length was increased in 2013 from 200 laps to 203 laps due to the implementation of green-white-checkered rules. The controversial race became a significant one after rookie Kyle Larson won the truck series in his first year. The Truck Series was discontinued in 2014 due to financial difficulties.
