NASCAR has slightly modified the format of the Daytona 500 qualifying ahead of this year's season opener at Daytona International Speedway.

The 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season 64th annual Daytona 500 race is schedules to start on 20 February (2:30 p.m. ET, Fox) at Daytona International Speedway.

However, the 40-car field will be decided by single-car qualifying which take place on 16 February 2022 on Fox Sports 1 channel at the time 8:00 pm ET. Then two Bluegreen Vacations Duels will happen on Thursday 17 February 2022 at 7:00 P.M ET on Fox Sports 1 channel.

The single-car qualifying session is only intended to set the first two starting positions of the Daytona 500. This session is set to decide the starting grid positions for the duels, which will determine the rest of the field, including which non-chartered are eligible and which are not.

The single-car qualifying session top 10 drivers will compete for 2nd qualifying round, and it will be the fastest two of those 10 drivers who will secure spots in the Great American Race.

The round 2 results and first-round results from 11th place will decide the starting lineup for the duels.
